The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true, they are righteous altogether.”  Psalm 19: 7-9

A Psalm A Day Keeps Anxiety Away

The Wholly Blog

Have you ever read through the psalms? It can seem like quite the emotional roller coaster!

Nowadays, with all the issues that are going on in life globally, locally, personally and professionally, it would really help to find a way to keep our emotions in check. That’s exactly what I find in the book of Psalms.

Sure, you might see it as a bunch of depressed, scared, psychotic at times, over-joyed individuals who are letting their emotions out to the Lord. But aside from all that, there is a calming, soothing and even stabilizing effect that the psalms have.

Many people have written poems, songs, essays, etc., but what sets these specific psalms apart from all other poetic literature, is the fact that those who put the word of God together, felt that these chapters belonged as well! These poems of great praise and adoration, of anger and humiliation, of…

Psalm 19: God’s Ways Are Simply Amazing! Part 1

the bible

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true, they are righteous altogether.”  Psalm 19: 7-9

Wow! This passage says a lot. It speaks to the heart of one who truly believes the gospel and brings them an extra level of comfort. It tells them that the way they chose to live their life is absolutely right, and good, and wise. You are on the right road if you are being lead by the Lord. This is a good passage to meditate on for when you are entering a time where you are sensing doubt creeping in. Doubt is destroyed by this passage.

Notice, the law of the Lord is perfect! The word perfect can also be understood as whole or complete. In other words, If you live your life straight from God’s words you will be complete. How many people nowadays go through times where they feel empty? Its as if their soul feels dry, like they need something more to complete their life? Well, those people are not walking in the ways of God. He has not called us to be people who are in need of anything outside of Him, so if we are walking in His ways we are never empty. If I ever hear someone say they feel empty, its a perfect evangelistic moment for me. I know exactly how to respond.

Notice next, restoring the soul. That word restoring can also be understood as, converting.  You see, we are created in God’s image. God is the one who started our life when He put our spirit in our mothers womb, but when we chose to live our life in sin, we gave ourselves  to God’s enemy, the devil. Most of us do this without even realizing it. But, once we are confronted about it, then shown God’s ways we have an opportunity to convert, or come back to Him, or we can remain as we are. As you witness with your own eyes the goodness of God, you realize conversion is the wise decision.

The testimony of the Lord is sure. A testimony is a witness. The Bible is God’s witness to all generations of His law in action. There are many writers of all the different books in the Bible and they stand as true witnesses to what God had said and done so all may have a way of knowing God. These testimonies are sure or, absolutely true. You can put your life upon the validity of all these words.

Making wise the simple. The words of God, according to Hebrews 4: 12, are said to be living and active. This means the words of God are always at work doing something. For those who are converted back to God, there is a power at work inside of them that causes them to feel more comfortable in dealing wisely in all areas of life. This is something that is simply hard to do without God’s word leading the way. Do you remember the days you were easily lead to do the wrong thing? The word simple here in this verse can also be understood as silly as in seducible. Remember the days you were doing wrong and having fun doing it? There was no power at work in you to help you do the right thing. There were times I’m sure where you did wrong and didn’t feel good about doing it but you did it because its what you knew to do. Maybe part of the wrong crowd, maybe bored, but you were without power to change your ways.

God’s words, His ways are the game changer! His ways are just simply amazing! If you who are reading this post want to experience the power to change your ways, you want to stop being easily lead to do the wrong thing, act upon this post. Believe the gospel of Jesus Christ which says we are all sinners since we live a life of sin before God, and we need a helper to bring us back to the right path. Jesus became that right path by dying on the cross and becoming a sacrifice for us all. But after He died He was raised up to heaven and defeated death. All who believe this good news and turn from your ungodly ways and live in God’s ways will experience salvation. You will be given power in the form of the Holy Spirit which will help you live in God’s ways.

Experience God’s amazing ways today and be blessed!

If You Fail To Plan, You Plan To Fail

There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Prov. 16: 25

This verse speaks of so many members of the human race. How many people choose to carve their own path in life? How many people develop their own plan for life based on what they had seen someone else doing and they were inspired to follow those footsteps, and later on realized it wasn’t for them. We’ve all been given an allotted time here on earth and I believe there is a specific purpose designed for that time. But many live a life that seems right to them. The word “seems” has no direction to it. “Seems” is a very passive-sounding word. Those who live accordingly live a life whose end is the way of death.

There are many characteristics that help define God, one of which is, purposeful. God is full of purpose! He does nothing by accident, nor is He caught off-guard when something happens that goes against His plan. He has a general plan for His creation, and within that plan He has a plan for all individuals who would choose to take part in His plan. The problem most people seem to have is, they don’t want God telling them how to live their life, so they develop their own plan. They don’t want a book that was written thousands of years ago to tell them the right and wrong ways to live, so they figure it out on their own. But the end of it leads to death.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go. I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Do not be as the horse or the mule which have no understanding, whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check. Otherwise they would not come near to you. Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.  Psalm 32: 8-10

The very God who created us is the One who knows the plan that will help everyone to reach their true potential in life. It is His plan we should follow, not our own. When we develop our own plan for life we tell God, thank you but I’m fine Lord. Its a nice plan I see but I think I’m better off over here! How can we tell the Lord such nonsense? He has laid it out right here: those who follow Him lovingkindness will surround him, but those who forge their own path will be loaded with sorrows.

I don’t know about you, but what I find most comforting about this verse is the part that says, I will counsel you with My eye upon you! That personalizes it for me. To know the God of the universe has His own personal eye upon me just does something to me! So if I am outside of His plan, whose eye is guiding me then? If its not the Lord’s eye, I don’t think I want it. Bottom line here is that we need to follow the Lord’s plan for life. Many sorrows will be avoided if we do so.

Where there is no vision, the people perish. Prov 29: 18

Another way this verse could be understood is: Where there is no revelation, the people are unrestrained. In a society where the words or revelation of God is lacking, the result equals chaos. Im sure we can admit that today across the globe we are lacking God’s vision and we see chaos all over the place. Let’s do our part to restore peace in this world by seeking God’s purpose for our life. One person at a time can do wonders.

For anyone who would like further encouragement on pursuing God’s plan for your life, I have written a book titled, Prepare For Your Promised Land. Preparation is a key to success in any area of life. For your copy either go to Amazon.com or click on this link: http://www.createspace.com/4406297

PSALM 18: Our God is INVINCIBLE

invincible

Have you ever had a moment in your life where you had to praise God OUT LOUD because He came through for you in such a mighty way and you could not contain it? Readers, God is just that amazing! He does the impossible with a simple snap of a finger and a little bit of faith on our part! He will make it known well to you that He is your Father, your Physician, your Provider, your Everything, just to let you know who it is that is running things in your life! And He doesn’t stop there. He runs all affairs throughout the globe, and at times He will get the attention of everyone to let them know as well.

King David was a man who saw God perform miracles in his lifetime, and he gave all the glory to God. I am sure Psalm 18 was either written or sung out after one of David’s great victories. It is worth reading in its entirety if you have your own bible but I will just take out a few verses for this blogpost to show you just how mighty our God is:

For by You I can run upon a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, His way is blameless. The word of the Lord is tried. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God, the God who girds me with strength and makes my way blameless? He makes my feet like hinds feet and sets me upon my high places. He trains my hands for battle so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand upholds me, and Your gentleness makes me great. You enlarge my steps under me and my feet have not slipped.       Psalm 18: 29-36

Many things are understood about God when He makes Himself known in your life. Especially for those who acknowledge that He is at work behind the scenes. For those who have believed the gospel of Jesus Christ, as they live they will know God as their Shield and Refuge because God will show Himself to be their Shield and Refuge. He will show them He is their Rock, their Strength, their Savior in such moments that He finds it necessary.

Its one thing to have a theological belief system in place, but its nice when you can add to that the experiences God wants to have with you. Victorious living in Christ strengthens your faith and that is how David became such a strong worshipper of God. I believe it is God’s ultimate desire for all people to have the same kind of victorious life that many of the great men of the bible experienced. If that was the case, I’m quite sure the praises of God would be ringing throughout the streets, just as He would prefer.

My final word on this post is: Next time God blesses you, bless His heart by telling others all about it! And you shall be blessed!

OUR MEDIA IS SO PATHETIC!

Really media??? Really??? Must you bother our President, who is overseas expressing his condolences to the people of Malaysia for their latest tragedy, by asking him to comment on comments allegedly made by an owner of an NBA team that is currently undergoing an investigation? Must you intercept the goodwill he is extending amidst all the confusion that is still happening in that nation, to ask him to air out our dirty laundry? Do you not understand the process of an investigation? Do you not realize that the racist comments made by that person is affecting American culture? Why do you have to allow Malaysia to have to sit through this stuff? Both national leaders looked uncomfortable as this issue was being addressed! I am far from a racist. I don’t condone racism. I married out of my own race therefore I have a biracial child of my own, but I just think it was so irresponsible of our media to go running so fast to the President, as they did, just to hear him address this situation on someone else’s time. Let the investigation be finished and let him come home to deal with it. There is a time and a place for everything. Just sayin…

DESPISE THE SHAME!

Isaiah 50: 7 says, “For the Lord God helps Me, therefore, I am not disgraced. Therefore, I have set My face like flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.”

This was Jesus speaking through the prophet Isaiah before He became human. It is one of the ways Christians can endure until the end as an effective Christian in these troubling days. The principle is to set your heart and mind on living out God’s will for your life no matter what kinds of adversity comes your way. As a matter of fact, its the kind of attitude that speaks directly at your adversity, whether it be physical affliction, persecution, mental or emotional issues, whatever the case, that you stand in the midst of it and triumphantly declare to that hardship that it will not stop you from doing the Lord’s work!

As Jesus made that assertion known, He made known another point, that He will not be ashamed! He knew He would not be ashamed. Here’s another way of saying it:

2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame…

That is found in Hebrews 12. Look at the principles found here. He set before Him the joy of the victory He would win (which is the redemption of many souls from hell into heaven) as long as He endured to the end. So who exactly was seeing Him as shameful? It was those who could benefit from His suffering, namely, you and I! Who exactly was seeing Him as shameful? It was the people who had no idea what He was doing. The people who could not see the outcome from where He was. They just saw Him as a humble man who healed many people, spoke strong words, had a different view of the ways of the world, and a very strict way of living. They could not see Him as saving them because their eyes were not in the right place. But He knew what was going on.

The same should be said of us, shouldn’t it? We know Jesus as the author and perfecter of our faith, right? We know His general will for our life, or we should anyways. If not, get into your bible, it is written there. And when we find out God’s will for our life we need to be like Him in every way possible. We need to set the joy before us of winning souls for Christ. Set the joy of populating heaven and depopulating hell before us. Set the joy of seeing people in the streets become healed in Jesus name before us. Set the joy of seeing blind eyes opened up before us! Set the joy of hearing Jesus say to us, “Well done My good and faithful servant”, before us!

This joy should help us to endure to the end any type of adversity that comes to us, shouldn’t it? Yes it should, and will! It worked for Jesus. He is our model and if we correctly follow Him we should end up with the same results. We may not have a bloody cross to endure. We may not have the beatings Jesus accepted to endure. But we all have a cross to bear and that statement is spoken by Christ Himself. We will have many types of adversity and afflictions to go through. It is how we relate to Jesus, through our hardships. So I believe if we want to get through them we really should copy the One who showed us how to get through them.

Setting the joy before us will help us endure, but also it will help us to eventually despise the shame. What a great attitude it would be if we could get up in the morning and say to it, “Whatever problems you bring to me today is nothing compared to the glory I will see in Christ, so bring it!” Imagine if we get to the point where we feel our day is incomplete unless we feel some type of discomfort for doing God’s work lol. That is called, DESPISING THE SHAME! Jesus made such a bold declaration that He set His face like a stone to do God’s will and He will NOT be ashamed! Imagine the confidence you would feel with such a perspective as this!

So, set the joy of doing God’s work before you, endure your cross, and despise the shame of your persecutors! And be blessed!!!
